Malignant bowel obstruction: a comparison among pre-operative factors, surgical approaches, and survival. Is surgery worthwhile?

Background: Malignant bowel obstruction (MBO) is defined as the evidence of distally to Treitz ligament in presence a malignant peritoneally disseminated neoplasm. Patients with this condition suffer from decreased quality life due impaired food intake, recurrent nausea, and abdominal pain. The objective was investigate outcome patients MBO surgically treated, considering post-treatment survival, surgical morbidity, length hospital stay, order assess efficiency impact surgery at advanced stage disease. Methods: We reviewed retrospectively data collected 198 diagnosed Instituto do Câncer Estado de São Paulo (ICESP), operated between 2018 2021. Results: Among preoperative factors, stages poor clinical status were associated earlier death (stage IV had 4.53 higher chance death).
